The weekend brought the spirit of competitiveness to the first regatta of the Tribute County Championships and the mixed championships, hosted by Caradon Pilot Gig Club.
The day started off with clubs entering mixed crews (3 men and 3 women) and racing around the three buoy, kite shaped course. Perfect weather conditions were present for the day and all clubs got a good bit of sun whilst we were there.
Portishead Pilot Gig Club’s mixed open crew enjoyed some fantastic racing with great tussles around the course to finish 3rd in the Repercharge, taking Brixham on the line.
The County Championships followed the mixed races with members of PPGC joining forces with Clevedon and Burnham pilot gig clubs to represent the county of Somerset. This was the first County Championships, with Cornwall and Devon dominating the races from the start, but was a fantastic opportunity for Somerset and Portishead PIlot Gig Club as a young club to be able to take part.
